A Modern Farmhouse With Spanish Flair

The vision for this project? A modern mid-Missouri farmhouse mixed with distinctly Spanish style. Our clients were passionate about interior design, and the collaborative process ended with a custom Spillman Homes build that reflects their unique style.

Modern farmhouse in Columbia, Missouri

It’s important that custom homes are detailed both inside and out. The exterior of this Copperstone house features a stone chimney and two warm wooden doors, which resulted in an inviting look. The black details and cool-tone stucco offer a modern edge to a timeless design, and the mix of hard and soft lines keep the contrast going.

Choosing the right front door can take exterior design to the next level. These arched, mahogany doors were designed by DSA Doors and purchased from La Crosse Lumber Co. Not only are they beautiful, but they also bring plenty of natural light into the home. For the windows, we used a matte black design from Andersen Windows for a look that really pops. And to add more texture to the home, we opted for a stone chimney, which matches an outdoor fireplace in the back of the house.

The entryway immediately communicates the home’s style to everyone who walks through the front door. The black sliding barn doors are a modern nod to farmhouse coziness, while the stairs are lined with a Spanish-style tile. We used porcelain tile from Erdel and Wood for this design.

With a brass chandelier and exposed wood beams, the formal dining room is anything but stuffy. This statement light fixture from Hinkly ties together the brass fixtures on the dark cabinets that line the wall.

The open concept kitchen is full of contrast with airy white cabinets and a dramatic black island. The custom-made cabinets and hardware are from Artisans In Wood, and the walls are painted in Sherwin Williams Repose Gray. The kitchen is the heart of the home, and this one provides the perfect backdrop for family dinners and parties with friends.

These quartz countertops, found at Central Missouri Countertops, give a marble effect but offer much more durability. We incorporated crisp subway tiles, exposed wood open shelving and matte black hardware to add visual interest to the open and airy space. It’s the details woven throughout the house that make it truly one-of-a-kind.

The quartz countertops and black hardware are carried into the downstairs master bath. The gray shiplap is a modern-farmhouse nod, while the patterned tile provides a Spanish flair. A waterfall showerhead and marble-effect bench give the shower a spa-like feel, while the wooden cabinets are beautiful yet practical storage solutions.

It wouldn’t be a Spillman home without stunning pockets of clever design, like a wet pantry lined with textured wallpaper, a functional mudroom with quirky herringbone brick floors, and arched entryways that add soft lines throughout the home.
